Emergence, now in its 49th year, is an annual juried exhibition composed of works of art from secondary school students of the Rainbow District School Board, the Sudbury District Catholic School Board, le Conseil scolaire pulic du Grand Nord de l’Ontario, and le conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario. Emergence was initiated in the 1970s and has been an annual exhibition since. Each year the exhibition is juried by three regional artists who are active in Sudbury’s artist community. This exhibition represents a cross-section of artistic development from grades nine through 12 in painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, photography and mixed media. Whether intuitive, expressive or conceptual, these works speak of the process of growth, exploration, maturation and the artistic nurturing of the soul. This exciting exhibition of student artwork is an opportunity for the students to share their vision with family, friends, and the public. Along with the jurying process, awards are also handed out to students by organizations in the Sudbury are, including the Walden Art Club and Sudbury Art Club.
