For National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and throughout the month of October, the Art Gallery of Sudbury | Galerie d’art de Sudbury will have on display four works by local artist Don Ense.

Born at M’Chigeeng First Nation on Manitoulin Island in 1653, Don Ense has fulfilled a long artistic career as painter, illustrator for numerous children’s books and poets. The themes of his works commonly derive from the teachings of the Anishnaabe and genre paintings of everyday reserve life. Ense is recognized as one of the vital members of the Native artists that emerged from Manitoulin Island in the mid 1970’s.
