The Annual Juried Exhibition continues the tradition of the Northern Ontario Art Association (NOAA) providing Northern Ontario communities access to original art. Out of 150-200 submissions from the NOAA member artists across the north, 40 works of art are selected for the juried exhibition that will travel for a year to communities throughout Northern Ontario.
The Northern Ontario Art Association is comprised of a group of independent Art Clubs, representing approximately 400 artists from clubs as far north as Timmins, to Sault St. Marie and Burks Falls in the south. Each of the clubs within their own regional boundaries is a hive of artistic creation during the winter and fall months. Many members also meet during the summer months, for outdoor workshops, on-location painting jaunts and also the now famous week-long Cobalt Artist Colony.
The organization was formed in 1949 with a specific goal of furthering art education within remote northern communities, as well as promoting the appreciation of their original artwork. With this in mind, the NOAA subsidizes member clubs in their quest for art instruction by covering some of the cost of bringing established artists to the member clubs/communities for workshops.
