251 rue John Street
The Art Gallery of Sudbury invites you to view a major new exhibition by Sudbury visual artist Ron Langin entitled terrain.
Ron Langin is a senior visual artist who has been exhibiting his work in the Sudbury region since 1992. He studied at Cambrian College and Laurentian University in Communication Arts and in the Bachelor of Arts program. He has an extensive exhibition history, with numerous solo and group exhibitions at La Galerie du Nouvel-Ontario, Theatre du Nouvel-Ontario, the Sudbury Theatre Centre, and the Art Gallery of Sudbury. terrain features a series of 32 paintings which re-imagine the landscapes of the Prairies, the Badlands and the mountains of Western Canada as colourful abstracted watercolour mosaics. Hoodoos, red rock coulees, the Prairies, and iconic mountain ranges are distilled and fragmented into line, pattern, shape, and form. The exhibition marks Ron Langin’s return to the medium of watercolour after a six-year span focused on encaustic painting. These paintings realize a brilliant saturation of colour through a technical approach of layering glazes using tubes, bottles and pans of watercolour including St. Petersburg “Yarka” paints.
