Lynn Johnston is the comic artist behind the comic strip For Better or For Worse as seen in thousands of newspapers internationally. This is the first exhibition of Lynn Johnston’s work in a public art gallery. The exhibition was initiated and curated by the AGS to showcase a prominent Northern Ontario artist. Once the exhibit closes in Sudbury it will travel to the Thunder Bay Art Gallery, the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, Fredericton, N.B., and then close at the WKP Kennedy Public Art Gallery in North Bay. The exhibition gives a behind-the-scenes look at Johnston’s innovative process, her life, and the many doors that were opened for her along the way.  The exhibition will show the comic over its 30-year history, the characters that readers know and love, and include fan responses to the beloved comic strip. The publication, written by Lynn Johnston and Katherine Hadway, in response to this exhibition is available to purchase in both French and English at the Art Gallery of Sudbury. The book was published in partnership with Goose Lane Editions, N.B. The Art Gallery of Sudbury would like to thank and acknowledge the following sponsors, Canadian Heritage, Industry Canada – FedNor, Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporations (NOHFC), City of Greater Sudbury – Greater Sudbury Development Corporation and Presenting Sponsor Vale. Johnston has been recognized with a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame, was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and was the first Canadian woman to receive a Reuben Award for Cartoonist of the Year. She currently lives in Vancouver, British Columbia.
